Recognizing the Symptoms of Diabetes

Diabetes mellitus, known more popularly simply as diabetes, affects 20.8 million men and women worldwide, according to the American Diabetes Association website.  This is about 7 percent of the world’s total population. Diabetes, which is the sixth leading cause of death for people in the United States, is a metabolic disease that affects a person’s blood sugar levels. This is either because their body cannot produce a sufficient amount of insulin or their cells do not react correctly to the insulin that is made.

Understanding how to recognize the signs and symptoms of diabetes can help you to save your own life or the life of somebody that you love. This disease is extremely serious and the sooner that it is detected, the sooner it can be treated, putting the person who has it far out of harm’s way. Diabetes symptoms can greatly vary from person to person, but if you or somebody you know is suffering from any of these symptoms, you should schedule an appointment with your general practitioner as soon as possible.
